About Saint Savva:
Saint Savvas of Kalymnos, embraced a life of profound faith and asceticism from an early age. Drawn to monastic life, he trained at Mount Athos, eventually travelling to Jerusalem, where he lived for years as a hermit in the harsh Jordanian desert, dedicating himself to prayer, fasting, and iconography. After a pilgrimage through Greece, he arrived on the island of Aegina in 1919 at the invitation of Saint Nectarios, where he served at the Convent of the Holy Trinity. Saint Savvas had the honour of conducting Saint Nectarios’s funeral and painting his first icon, which he venerated before the saint’s formal canonisation, foreseeing his sanctity.
In 1925, he settled in Kalymnos, spending his final years at the Convent of All Saints. Known for his spiritual gifts, many reported a heavenly fragrance in his presence and even witnessed him lifted off the ground in prayer. Through his fervent intercession, countless miracles occurred, drawing pilgrims seeking healing and spiritual counsel. Saint Savvas’s life stands as a powerful testimony to holiness, and he remains a revered spiritual father and intercessor to this day.
