About Saint Peter:
Saint Peter, one of the foremost apostles of Jesus Christ, holds a central place in the Greek Orthodox tradition. Originally named Simon, he was a fisherman until he was called by Jesus, who named him ‘Peter,’ meaning ‘rock,’ signifying the steadfast foundation he would become for the early Church. Saint Peter witnessed key moments of Christ’s ministry, from the Transfiguration to the Resurrection. Though he denied Jesus three times during the Passion, he repented deeply and went on to boldly preach the Gospel, ultimately becoming a leader of the apostles. According to tradition, Saint Peter was martyred in Rome, where he was crucified upside down by his own request, feeling unworthy to die in the same manner as Christ. His feast day is celebrated on 29th June, and he is honoured as a model of faith, humility, and the transformative power of repentance.
