About Saint Marko:
Saint Marko, also known as Saint Mark the Evangelist, is an important figure in the Greek Orthodox Church, revered as the author of the Gospel of Mark. Born in the first century in Cyrene (modern-day Libya), he is believed to have been a disciple of Jesus and a companion of the Apostle Peter, who referred to him as ‘my son.’ Mark’s Gospel is noted for its emphasis on the humanity of Christ and the immediacy of his message. After the resurrection of Jesus, Saint Mark played a significant role in spreading Christianity, eventually founding the Church of Alexandria, one of the earliest Christian communities. He is often depicted with a lion, symbolising courage and the power of the Gospel. Saint Mark is celebrated for his dedication to evangelism and is honoured as the patron saint of not only evangelists but also of lawyers and notaries. His feast day is observed on April 25th, and his life continues to inspire faith and commitment within the Christian tradition.
